Working in Derwood
Derwood sits just north of Rockville and southeast of Gaithersburg, around the Shady Grove Metro station at the end of the Red Line. Lake Needwood and the Agricultural History Farm Park are here too. It's about 20 minutes from my base in Germantown.
The housing is a real mix. About two in three homes in the 20855 ZIP were built in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, and about one in four has been built since 2010, including the new townhouses and apartments going up by the Metro.
Older homes need repairs. Doors stick, trim wears, drywall cracks and decks get tired. New homes need finishing, like TV mounts, shelves, curtain rods and the small things the builder skipped. I do both kinds of work.
